What is your culture?
A basic definition of culture is the experience, knowledge, values, and behavior of any one group of people. The group most people think of first is nationality. You are, for example, Japanese or Mexican or Canadian, and you have the cultural influences from the country you grew up in. However, you belong to many culture groups. Did you grow up in the city or countryside? Are you a man or woman, a teenager or young adult, a worker or a student, and if you are a student, which school or university do you attend? You belong to many different groups, and each one shapes who you are in ways which you are not even aware.
The purpose of this blog is to help you learn English though reading and vocabulary development, to teach about culture and cross-cultural communication, and also to prepare you to have successful homestay experiences. It is especially for NAST Homestay students, but all are welcome to read and learn!
