New Culture New Friends

The first day with the host family is always exciting and makes the students a little nervous. In places like Japan, hosts honor their guests by doing everything for them. In North America, hosts honor their guests by saying, "make yourself at home" and "help yourself". When you are treated like a member of the family, you have been welcomed into the family. It's a sign of trust. Today was the first full day of classes, first full day in the homestay, and first time to check out the downtown scene. The City Hall with the ice rink is just around the corner from where we meet at St. John's.
